Couples-Only Resorts: How to Choose the Right One

A week in the sun, a cocktail in hand, surrounded by couples who share the same appetite for freedom. For many, a couples-only resort is the best way to discover the lifestyle, or to experience it differently. The trick is choosing the right one. Here’s what to know before you book.

Adults-only or lifestyle resort?

This is the first and most important distinction.

  • Adults-only resorts simply don’t allow children. Romantic and quiet, but nothing more.
  • Lifestyle couples resorts welcome couples who are open to meeting others. The atmosphere is more liberated: theme nights, dedicated spaces, bolder dress codes.

Read the resort description carefully. Words like "lifestyle," "liberated" or "open-minded" are good clues.

Nothing is mandatory here either

Just like at a club, the golden rule applies: you can enjoy the beach, the food and the atmosphere without going any further. Many couples choose these resorts simply for the vibe, the freedom and the feeling of not being judged. How to choose

Atmosphere. Some resorts are party-focused, with nights that run until dawn. Others lean toward relaxation and slow-burn flirtation. For a first visit, a calmer setting helps you find your footing.

Size. A small resort creates an intimate atmosphere where you get to know people quickly. A large one offers more activities and more people to meet.

House rules. A good resort clearly states its rules: consent, discretion, no photos, public and private spaces. That’s a sign of professionalism and safety.

Package. All-inclusive is the most common and the simplest: meals, drinks and activities included. Check what is and isn’t covered, especially special events.

Destination. The Caribbean and Mexico are the most popular destinations from Canada, with direct flights from Montreal and Toronto and sunshine in the middle of winter.

Recent reviews. Read what other couples say, especially in recent months. Reviews reveal a lot about the real atmosphere and the quality of service.

When to go

Canadian winter is peak season for sun destinations: book early for the holidays and March break. Many resorts also host theme weeks, so keep an eye on their calendars. Quieter periods often mean better prices and a more intimate atmosphere.

What to pack

Pack outfits for theme nights (often white, black or red), beautiful lingerie for the evenings, beachwear and, above all, an open mind. And just like at a club: talk before you leave, set your limits and choose your exit word.

Ready to go?

A stay at a couples resort is often much more than a trip: it’s a way to rediscover each other. That’s the story of Julie and Marc, told in "The Weekend That Changed Everything".

Adults 18+ only. Check terms, prices and house rules directly with each resort before booking.
