Desire or Temptation: Which Couples Resort in Cancún First?

For a first stay at a couples resort, three names come up often on the Mexican Riviera: Desire Riviera Maya, Desire Pearl and Temptation Cancún. They belong to the same group, but they don’t quite speak to the same couples. Here is how to choose, based on what each one says on its official website. No prices here: they change often, so check them when you book.

Temptation: a festive first taste

Temptation Cancún is for adults only, without being limited to couples. People come mostly for the atmosphere: pool parties three times a week, a theme night every evening, a long beach in Cancún. Tops are optional in some areas, but nudity is not allowed: the resort itself points guests to the Desire resorts for that.

It is often the right choice for couples who want to feel the atmosphere of an open-minded resort, have fun and watch, without feeling expected to go further.

Desire Pearl: the most intimate

Desire Pearl, in Puerto Morelos, is for couples aged 21 and over. It is the smallest of the three: three restaurants, four bars, one pool. You quickly see the same faces, which reassures many couples on a first visit. Clothing is optional in designated areas such as the pool and the beach, and photos are limited to your room.

Desire Riviera Maya: the full experience

Desire Riviera Maya has the same rules as the Pearl, on a larger scale: eight restaurants, nine bars, two pools, a theme night every evening and pool parties twice a week. More choice and more people, for couples who already know the lifestyle suits them, or who prefer the anonymity of a big resort.

Swinger resort, couples-only resort: what these three really are

Search for a “swinger resort” near Cancún and these names come up first, yet none of them uses the word. Desire calls itself a couples-only resort: two all-inclusive properties on the Riviera Maya where clothing is optional in designated areas, every evening has a theme, and the people around the pool are couples who chose this place on purpose. Nothing happens unless you want it to; the tension of being there, together, is often the whole point of the first night.

Temptation Cancún is the lighter version: an adults-only party resort, tops optional in some areas, no nudity. For couples looking for a “swingers all-inclusive” stay, the difference matters: at Desire everything is included and everyone is a couple; at Temptation everything is included too, but the crowd is wider and the mood is a party first.

What do we wear at Desire or Temptation?

At Desire, clothing is optional in designated areas such as the pools and the beach, and required in the restaurants and the disco. At Temptation, tops are optional in some areas, but full nudity is not allowed. Pack outfits for the theme nights.

What is allowed, and what isn’t?

Photos: at Desire, only in your room; at Temptation, not around the main pool and during some parties. Beyond that, the resort’s house rules and plain consent apply: nobody is obliged to do anything, and a “no” ends the conversation.
